Venue

This year we bring the Eurotas annual conference in the heart of nature. Surrounded by the beauty of the Cévennes Natural Reserve, in the South of France, you will have a wide variety of accommodation options to choose from.

The Isis en Cévennes domain is very well situated on the southern outskirts of the Cévennes National Park, an hour away from Montpellier and the Mediterranean sea, or the Mont Aigoual.

The camp-site has been run by the same family since 1975 and has a family vibe and consists of various types of lodgings such as mobile-homes, caravans, chalets and gîtes as well as tent placements.

Cévennes National Park

is full of wild, unspoilt countryside dotted with rivers and streams, and is home to a rich flora and fauna.

Isis en Cévennes

In the heart of the St. Julien domain the Isis en Cévennes campsite owns 125 spacious sites, in the shade of a huge variety of trees planted over the years.

Formerly a peach and apple trees orchard (the famous Reinette apples du Vigan), the campsite has gradually transformed into an “arboretum” where more than one hundred species of trees offers perfect shade.

More about Isis

The Cévennes Isis Campsite was opened in 1975 on land which had previously been orchards. The site has large, spacious pitches and by replanting fruit trees we have recreated the scents and tastes that children, birds and even hedgehogs find so delightful! Other areas, such as our «mysterious island», we left wild and we have been careful to respect the existing landscape by using local and/or recyclable building materials such as wood, stone and iron. As a result, we have a rich wildlife flourishing within our domain and we do not use weedkiller or any other pesticides.

Waste management: We sort and we would appreciate it if you did the same.

Energy: as well as traditional energy we can offer renewable energy on our campsite and we are pleased to be able to produce electricity by means of your small hydro electrical generators.

Sustainable tourism: the economy of our region now depends largely upon tourism and our guests contribute directly and indirectly to this. The money generated by tourism enables us to safeguard and enhance our heritage, our countryside, our hiking trails, the quality of our water and so on. In spite of our daily efforts to respect and improve our environment we are aware that there still remains much to be done if we are going to leave our children a beautiful planet on which to live.

A little history

This small region has been affected by major historical movements (the Cathars, the Huguenots, the Wars of religion), and shaped by its mineral wealth, the cultivation of chestnuts and the silk industry. All of these factors have meant that it is largely a self-sufficient community which explains the strong, enduring characteristics of the Cévénol people. You can discover many traces of this history during your various excursions and trips.

Museums : the Cévénol museum, the silk museum, the fireman’s museum, the museum of the desert (the history of Protestantism), the museum of music as well as the Haribo sweet factory, the weather observatory and the possibility of a fascinating visit around the Alès mines.

Natural and Historical Sites : the prehistoric site of Cambous, the renowned Pont du Gard, the Demoiselle, Dargilian and Clamouse prehistoric caves, the Bramabiau abyss, Aven Arnand, the Cirques of Navacelles and Mont Aigoual without forgetting the numerous medieval towns and villages.
